The Bane of Big Breasts and the NRA's Pro-Assault-Weapon Stance
Today I got an email pointing me to this brilliant entry of Misstess's about having large breasts. Everyone should read it. It will make you think, and feel about someone else's life (or maybe your own). Brilliant. Thankyou Misstress.
NOTICEI'm adding this since the last two comments I got. This is stopthenra.com. This is a recognized organized group supported by a whole slewload of very recognized groups. If you don't believe me, click on the first link right coming up. This is to RENEW AN EXISTING BAN ON THESE AUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPONS. This is not a ban all guns thing. This is not a gun registry thing. This is not against owning handguns to protect yourself or rifles to shoot coons or deer. This is a ban on selling what we used to call machine guns to the general public. These are guns that can put a dozen or more bullets in someone before you can shout STOP. Almost every law enforcement agency in North America wants these banned in gun stores, cuz the weapons a cop carries is no help against an automatic assault weapon in the hands of anyone, whether it be a suicidal husband, a teenager holding up a grocery store, or a drug-running gang. With an automatic or semi-automatic assault weapon like an AK-47, someone can mow down many people before someone can unarm them. Sure paramilitary types might get their hands on such arms, but without this ban, these assault guns can be bought legally by anyone with $300. If you have a handgun, do you want a robber with a semi coming into your house?
These guns have been banned but the ban will run out in September. In 2000 one of Bush's election promises was to renew the ban. And now he is pushing other agendas like saving the USA from gays marrying, and letting the time run out on the ban. It boggles me to say "we want to fight terrorism" and yet go "well, it really is ok for us to live in a country where anyone can buy a military weapon that shoots hundreds of bullets a minute". If you want to see the actual guns concerned by this ban, go to the Stop the NRA link, and ask yourself what you would think of seeing someone holding one of those on your streetcorner. End of rant. And I don't want to hear anymore about coons. You don't need a machine gun to mow down coons. My uncles did mighty fine with a shotgun or a rifle.
BTW I don't remember anyone saying "online petitions don't work etc etc" when I see people posting ones about abusing animals etc. Why do we care more about animals than people???
Now, here is the latest email I got from Stop the NRA:
Dear friend,I've already signed and sent this on to my friends, as well as adding my name to the "NRA's Blacklist", so now I am putting it here as well. Go to it, people.We've stopped smiling after our victory defeating the NRA's insane bill that would have given legal immunity to the gun industry.
We've stopped smiling because there are only 55 legislative days left for Congress to renew the ban on assault weapons. When the ban expires, illegal AK-47s, Uzis and other illegal assault weapons will be legalized and back on our streets. Ten years of progress will be wiped out. President Bush is running around the country telling everyone that we must renew the Patriot Act. But he is silent on the renewal of the assault weapons ban. He is supporting the NRA over our children -- it's that simple. It�s special-interest politics at its worst.
In Illinois just the other day, police arrested a man who had an AK-47 assault rifle, more than 1,300 rounds of ammunition, pipe bomb making components, and a book called Guns, Freedom and Terrorism by National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre. Apparently the man had plans for a killing spree of government officials and politicians. Do we have to wait for another Columbine to come to our senses?

Momentum is building. Next week Police Chiefs all over the country will be holding press conferences demanding the ban be renewed. The Reverend Jesse Jackson has taken up the cause and is traveling around the country speaking out. The New York Times has editorialized for the renewal, along with many other newspapers around the country. We are being successful -- but we need your help.

An Al Qaeda training manual that was found in Afghanistan said the following:
"In countries like the United States it�s perfectly legal for members of the public to own certain types of firearms. If you live in such a country attain an assault rifle legally, preferably an AK-47 or variations."
