Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

WARNING!!!! if you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of hearing things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is ok to read, save yourself and me the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, ie my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. Keep that in mind. Karla Writes Babe in Pink

Egads, you can tell I am supposed to be working a mile a minute. I just spent the last few minutes writing a letter to the Globe & Mail, one of Canada's more serious national newspapers, about this article about Karla Homolka, our infamous sex murderer, who is this week being released after having served her 12 years for her crimes..

The article was frontpage today. And continued with a full spread on pages 9-10 in the A section with of all things a handwriting analysis. Insane. Even the article itself says experts take a dim view of handwriting analysis. Yeah, what's next? Her sun sign?

Here is the letter I wrote:

Up until I read the exclusive cover article about Karla Homolka's correspondence today, I was incredulous that Ms. Homolka would think the press has no right to report on her doings. But now I realize that even a well-respected paper like the Globe & Mail has descended into tabloid speculation and circus spectacle.

I think the people have every right to know the whereabouts of Ms. Homolka, her crimes, her psychological state as it pertains to her chances of recidivism, in short those things that will help us make informed decisions about her and her risk to society.

I don't think that the fact that she uses pink ink, dots her "i"s with circles (apparently a higher proportion of criminals do this than law-abiding citizens... what? 35% of murderers and 32% of female highschool A students?), uses teddybear paper (like most adult scrapbookers) or uses endearments to those she loves is anything more than voyeurism and juvenile speculation.

That she is amourous of convicted killers and criminals indicates she has not developed morally and is still a risk. That "Her language here is equally juvenile: She variously signs off as "Your love bug," "Your beauty," "Your little kitty love" and "Your angel," and addresses Ms. Veronneau, a strapping and masculine lesbian, as "Babylove" and "Babe." puts her in the same amourous linguistic category as myself, a 40 yr old children's illustrator, and as my married lesbian friends, one of whom is a strapping and masculine lesbian lawyer and law professor.

Calling your lover "Babe" is not an indication of psychosis, nor immaturity, at any age.

And writing in a different manner (complex sentences) to a journalist than one does to one's lover in notes (short banal sentences) is scarcely indicative of a split personality. Indeed it would be surpising if the correspondence were NOT different styles. What next? The revelation that she wears pink lace panties on a date, but skintone cotton ones to court?

I am seriously disappointed with the Globe & Mail. When the right of the press to report on Ms. Homolka was upheld, I expected freedom of the press to bring us real news.

sincerely,
Wenchie

I mean, really!!! She puts circles on her i's and she has semicircular crossbars on her T's?? She called a lover "Babe" and signed off "Your Angel"?? Christ. We learn that but I don't think we even see what her masculine lesbian lover is in jail for. Murder? Embezzlement? Being a consultant to Martha Stewart??

And yes, Ms. Homolka seems to think that she is more worthy of remaking her life than Michael Jackson, as she HAD asked the courts to deny the press any coverage of her once she's released. She is totally insane. But still. Let the poor insane woman write on teddy bear paper with curlicues in pink ink for god's sake.

And keep an eye on where she goes. I wouldn't want to go home with her by mistake.

cheers.
Wenchie
