Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

WARNING!!!! if you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of hearing things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is ok to read, save yourself and me the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, ie my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. Keep that in mind. Thanks. * Here is a Diary Etiquette Read Me.

Freedom Lovers Don't Love Earings on Boys

OK, Here is your reading material for the day.

One, it illustrates how hateful the Bible is. And I don't mean bad, I mean full of hate, and this text says over and over "this passage shows how God hates xxxxxx". yup. hate.

And two, it will tell you why you shouldn't allow your son to wear earings.

Perhaps I should give out prizes to the reader who can give me the most blatant example of really wonky stereotypes and unexamined assumptions being passed off as fact. "everybody knows" lalala.

Read very interesting article here.

Please note that the Bible was written FOR the people of the middle east thousands of years ago. It was not written for modern Western people. (one clue is that we are Western and that was middle EAST) I mean, does "do not adopt the clothing of foreigners" have ANY meaning given that it was written for Jewish people several thousand years ago? Are not trousers of any sort an example of "foreign clothing" given the clothing the people of the Old and New testaments wore? How about tshirts or bikinis? Or even closed shoes.

I would say that the Taliban wear clothing closer to what God meant by non-foreigner clothing at this point in time, than what the average conservative God-Fearing Western Christian wears now. So at this point, if you dressed like Moses, would you be insulting God and your culture by adopting clothing of the ancient Middle East, ie foreign clothing. Or would you be insulting God more by wearing jeans and a t-shirt with Jesus on it? (which of course is Idolatry, up there with Adultury and Sodomy).

May I suggest that we ARE the foreigner? (Unless you are a Middle Eastern Christian who has kept their traditional culture)

What about if you are a Buddhist monk in India who converts to Christianity? Are you supposed to keep your customs rather than wear foreign clothing (ie western Christian clothing) which God would consider abominable???

One other very interesting thing is that this website is called "Foundations for Freedom"... a very weird name for a site that exalts conservatism and modesty and following the law of God in all...

*** I will pick this article apart a bit more once you've had a chance to read it and enter the "most holey assertion" contest. Yup that is holey not wholy or holy.

Here is my horoscope for Saturday, August 21:

A family member has an announcement to make -- and it's going to be a doozy. You'll be better equipped to deal with it than everyone else. So consider your role to be threefold: welcome wagon, interpreter and, eventually, cruise director.

Well, that didn't seem to happen, though my mother did call me and we talked about condom sizes and my father being self-pitying. Unrelated topics btw.

Here is my horoscope for Friday, August 20:

It's never easy to say no to you, whether you're asking, intimating or downright demanding. At the moment, due to a heavy dose of added cosmic charm, it will be even tougher. Have mercy on easy targets.

hmm wish I knew what that was on about too. At least they are not telling me to have a romantic evening in anymore! Maybe Venus is out of Leo now! :D Well, that's it for now...
