Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

WARNING!!!! if you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of hearing things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is ok to read, save yourself and me the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, ie my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. Keep that in mind. Thanks. * Here is a Diary Etiquette Read Me.

A Recounting of Sunday in San Francisco

Well, FINALLY two weeks later, an entry on my Sunday in San Fran (at APE, on February 22, 2004)... hehe, it helps to scan in pics at 6:30 pm and not at 6:30 am!

Sunday, I got up and went to the Concourse on public transportation with CartoonAuntie and CartoonUncle... I only had one box so it was fine... not pulling shit around with a little wheeled cartthingie like the day before. When we got there I was starving, but they were all meeting up with special breakfast dates, so I just noshed on something in the Concourse. You know it is a high class event when you can get onthespot latts! :)

Sunday was much like Saturday, except for even MORE zipping by at twice the speed of light! eeeeeek! I wish this were a four day event so I could sell at my table AND go around to the other tables, AND hobnob with all the other cartoonists, AND go to the panel discussions! EEK!!

Those above are pics of me flogging my wares... people kept bumping into my posters at the front so they are all wonky. Thankgod I couldnt see til afterwards, cuz that wouldve picked my perfectionist ass! And below are all the guys at the Boy Trouble table (that's a new link in case you checked out Boy Trouble in a previous entry...) next to me... a great bunch! And they had a little MP3 player so we had funky tunes! :)

Here is Michael Manning who does the sexiest comics I have ever read... perhaps erotic graphic novels would be a better appellation. He has talent talent talent. Someone said "I won't call him a genius, I'll leave you, the reader, to do that. Check out his stuff. He's also a very fun guy and not at all pretentious.

Here is Keith Knight, a funky soul... he has a band called the Marginal Prophets, sort of rap I guess... I'm not so good at musical styles. But funny, and dancable. He also has a regular comic strip, and books called The KChronicles. Funny as all heck. The best for reading in the bath while you soak. You can see, he'd rather be masturbating. And no I did NOT catch him with that face... he POSED with that face!! LOL! The pink tanktop has a sheep coming out of a toilet... I got one in grey. His first collection of strips was called "Dances with Sheep" (was around the time of the "Dances with Wolves" movie)
Here is Trina Robbins, the Grande Dame of feminist female cartoonists... she has put out books on everything from the history of female cartoonists, to one on women who murder, to one on vintage fashions from the 60's... you can see from her tablecloth she's got some fetish for it! hehe. An excellent cartoonist as well as a shaker and mover!
This is Kris Dresen, who does illustration and various comics, including Manya, and Max and Lily which you can read online... I used to use her black and white work as examples when I taught at the London Cartoon Center in England... I don't know anyone else who can so successfully divide up black and white space with different patterns (vs shading). Check out her stuff.
Here is Kris's tablemate at APE, Paige Braddock. For some unknown reason I didn't know Paige or her work before APE this year, but I am discovering it. She has been building a repertoire of excellent work, mostly online. You can read her daily strip, Jane's World, starring her character Jane, online at comics.com
Here I am with Zan, who runs Prism Comics, which does distribution and advocacy work for gay comics and gay cartoonists. Impressive stuff. Just seeing it quickly online I thought, damn, more fuckin rainbows, but Zan really knows his stuff. He gets interviews and promotes our work. It is quite amazing the energy and devotion he has.ACK ACK ERROR!! That is not Zan! That is BILL!! who does a funny comic about... Bill! Here is Zan! (with Denise) oops again!
Here is Keith again, Trina Robbins, and her guy Steve Leialoha, who is an incredible professional inker of comics as well as an excellent cartoonist in his own right. Mastery of the line and brush. I tease Trina that I will steal Steve... and she laughs back that I cannot have him... they have been together for like 17 years! Yowzah! And you can see I was not the only one loaded down with crap...

Well, this page is getting pretty loaded, so I will continue on the next page... please follow me!!! OOPS! Don't follow yet! This has SO MANY LINKS and has taken me two hours to write, so I will do the rest of Sunday tomorrow... you can follow me then! Look up the links, folks! It is good for your alternative cartooning appreciation!!.....
