Taking Care of Your Cows
Today's interesting website is Milk Production dot com.
I am looking up "cows lying down" on google images and came up with this. It shows how cows lie down, how they get up again, and talks about how important resting is to milk cows, including the amount of space needed.
If you look at the other pages in the left hand menu, it is really interesting. It is nice to see information for milk producers on their actual cows: that they are social animals, that they need to do social licking, that they need to have clean dry feet, that their happiness and health is important. As is proper flooring, clean bedding, footcare, proper feed etc.
It is easy to buy bison meat instead of beef and know they aren't factory farmed, but I am a dairy addict. And it is good to know someone somewhere is actually caring for their cows.
