WARNING!!!! if you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of hearing things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is ok to read, save yourself and me the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, ie my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. Keep that in mind. Thanks. * Here is a Diary Etiquette Read Me. Upgrading Downgrades my Desktop oh yay. I just LOVE computers. People are always saying "why do you have an OLD version of Shockwave" "why havent you updated your Quicktime" "why don't you download a recent version of....fill in the blank". Well, guess what... I overcame my aversion to downloading and upgrading to upgrade my Quicktime... to Quicktime 5 or something like that, supposedly good for OS 7-9. yeah right. As soon as I restarted my computer we can see it is totally screwed. The desktop is fucked. My desktop wallpaper has disappeared and I just have the solid color everywhere that was just a border before. Anytime I move a window or an icon, the solid color behind where the window was takes AGES to put back the icons that were covered by the window. And during that time I cannot do anything. Not move the window, not work within the window... WAIT for the icons on the desktop to refresh one by fuckin one. Imagine the joy of trying to do anything...everytime you move ANYTHING, it takes like 30 seconds or more to refresh the desktop so it doesnt have a huge hole in it. Same if my screensaver comes on. If I touch my keyboard or mouse to get my puter to wake up, it takes again like three minutes to bring up every goddamn desktop icon. So, I am like stuck. I cannot move my windows, or close them or work within them until every fuckin bit of the desktop that had been underneath refreshes bit by fuckin bit one by one. What is up with that?? I don't know. I tried calling the guy who put memory into my computer. He doesnt think it is a memory problem, but will call back tomorrow. But how can anyone work on their computer if they cannot open or close windows or move them over a quarter inch?? Fuckin hell. Yay for upgrades. Yay yay yay. I did all this to see some "extras" supposedly included with a combo of Cyndi Lauper's website and the new cd. Ironically it says we need to upgrade to the latest version of Shockwave (ONLY good for Mac OSX, not any versions of 9), or Quicktime (again, their newest 6.03 version I think is ONLY good for Mac OSX), AND Cyndi's site specifically says it will NOT be compatible with OSX. Hmm. Need to have your whole system run on OSX to get the shockwave or Quicktime to see the dancing bunnies. But the dancing bunnies will not dance if you have OSX. Does anyone see any screwiness in this whole "upgrade upgrade" mania?? BTW I do NOT plan to upgrade to OSX, since every mac person I know has said OSX sucks the big one. So how the fuck to you get all these plugsins if you don't have the OS?? I do not know I do not know. All I can say that when my system was supposedly old and grey it worked like a charm. Fuckin shit. Well, I do not have three or twelve hours to try to problemsolve my computer tonight. You may guess that because of this, I will not be putting up an entry with images... I can see it now. Everytime I scan in an image in photoshop, or move it, or close it, my computer goes into "refreshing desktop" hang. yah. Hope you are having better luck. Most of the world is trying to eat, clothe and survive, and we are fighting with upgraded technology to see dancing bunnies. Priorities are somehow totally fucked. wench77 5 People have left cute, callous or caring comments on the wench's wordiness!!
