WARNING!!!! if you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of hearing things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is ok to read, save yourself and me the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, ie my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. Keep that in mind. Thanks. * Here is a Diary Etiquette Read Me. Anne of Nontraditional Family Under the Green Gables OK, just for everyone...Anne of Green Gables is an orphan. Marilla Cuthbert is a cratchety old spinster woman, and Matthew Cuthbert is her aging bachelor brother who is terrified of women. They want to adopt a boy to help around the place (Marilla doesn't trust girls and Matthew needs strong arms), but when they show up at the train station, it turns out the orphanage sent them a girl. Anne's free spirit has betwitched Matthew on the trip from the train station, and eventually Marilla concedes they will keep Anne and not send her back to the orphanage and demand a boy. Not exactly a traditional family... if anything, at least most gays and lesbians can relate to at least one sex, they aren't confirmed bachelors at 60, living with their confirmed spinster sister! And it is funny, I don't think that a brother/sister unit can even adopt here in Canada (or the States)... I think that one or the other would have to adopt as a single parent, and the other would be the aunt or uncle of the kid. If not it makes the weird situation of your father and your mother being brother and sister, which is kinky if nothing else!! You are your own cousin!! (the child of your mother's brother, the child of your brother's sister). So, definitely would be up there for those to scream "not a family!!!" ... ie the ones who say "if we can call two women who chose to live together for life and their child a family, next we'll have to call anyone a family", and "gay marriage is the next step on the way to incest and bestiality". Well, if you can call a brother and sister who live together with a child (and let them adopt) a family, and you don't call THEM "the next step on the way to incest" (clears throat here)... well, they lose their case. I am pretty sure that everyone accepts that Marrilla, Matthew and Anne are a family. So the family values coalition has lost the battle for "only a married man and woman in a godly marriage to procreate" are a family from way back with Anne of Green Gables. Now the public can accept practically anything! Dang. It wasn't the Gay Agenda to make unmarried siblings who still live together seen as family. Maybe it was the Spinsters" and Bachelors' agenda. Or the Aged Siblings who Live Together Agenda. But look how making that seem acceptable has brainwashed y'all and opened the door for god only knows who adopting children and accepting the grouping as a family. How ungodly. cheers. (and don't get me started on how it is not ok for a single woman to have kids cuz it deprives them of a father in the house, but it IS ok, even wonderful and laudible, to send a married man with children off to war ... à la Little Women. It is only luck that he came back alive. Most came back shellshocked and silent, unable to engage in normal life in an emotionally meaning manner, if not mangled or dead. That is if they simply weren't away from the family for 2-6 years... which of course means often they and their children didn't even recognize eachother when Daddy came home. A mother who is raising her toddler for 4 years while her husband is away at war is not only a single mother, she is a stressed and grieving single mother who never knows when she is going to get notice of her husband's death. Nice. Though if you run the army, you'd much rather have the next generation venerating their dead soldier fathers. That much the better to recruit them "it'd make your father proud". yay.) ps, ok, I was going to find ya a link or two to Focus on Family,Traditional Values Coalition or the American Family Association, who freak out about portrayals of "nontraditional" (when did that come to mean a "gay"??) families in children's books since they will make children feel it is normal to live in a family that isn't mom/dad/kids, but I really have to get out of the house. I'll find one later. But yeah. Apparently Anne of Green Gables is lovely (though we could say it is anti-marriage and indeed as anti-traditional family as any single woman/kids, two women/kids, single man/kids, gay woman/gay man household) and Heather Has Two Mommies is bad. 3 People have left cute, callous or caring comments on the wench's wordiness!! Go to "notes" instead of comments ps, you'll need to email me for a username and password
